PROJECT / HOSPITALITY TELEPHONY

K-Hotel Kensington.
A smooth move to VoIP.

A modern telephone system for guest rooms, reception and back-office teams. Hillsnet assessed the existing infrastructure and delivered a secure on-site VoIP solution, with a parallel rollout to keep disruption to a minimum.

THE CHALLENGE

IP-ready infrastructure.
A legacy room-phone system.

The hotel was operating a hybrid telephone system: IP phones served the front office and back office, while guest rooms still used analogue telephony. Although a previous provider had installed IP-ready infrastructure, the room-phone system had not made use of it.

The move to VoIP was an opportunity to bring the hotel’s telephony onto one modern platform and remove the need for the legacy PSTN connection. The challenge was to confirm what could be reused, prepare the network for the new phones and manage the change while the hotel continued operating.

THE SOLUTION

Assess. Prepare.
Switch over with care.

Use the infrastructure already in place, with a network and telephone system designed for the hotel’s operation.

Assess the existing infrastructure

Hillsnet reviewed the current setup and assessed the IP-ready infrastructure before planning the migration. This established how the existing network could accommodate the new telephone system.

Create the telephony network

We configured a dedicated network within the existing infrastructure to support 150 phones. Aruba switches, managed through the cloud, provided visibility of the supporting switching environment.

Install Grandstream on site

A secure on-site Grandstream telephone system brought room, reception and back-office telephony onto the new VoIP platform, replacing the hotel’s mixed analogue and IP arrangement.

Run the systems in parallel

The existing telephone system continued running alongside the new setup during the transition. This allowed the migration to be managed carefully and helped keep downtime to a minimum.

THE RESULT

A modern system.
Minimal disruption.

The hotel moved to a unified VoIP solution using its existing IP-ready infrastructure. On-site Grandstream telephony and cloud-managed Aruba switching delivered a clear, manageable setup, while the parallel rollout kept disruption low. The project was completed successfully, with a happy customer.

Start with what
you already have.

A hotel phone-system upgrade starts with the existing cabling, network, room phones and the needs of reception and staff. We assess the environment and agree a migration plan around the property’s operation.
